Why Are We Doing This?
Our sunrise view at our current home, the one we’re about to give up. It was not an easy decision.
Most people would probably think we’re crazy. No home base, just stored belongings and a VW Tiguan. So why are we doing this?
Rents are increasing dramatically. So are utilities. Our landlord has increased our rent by 45% in 3 years, so we decided to end our lease. The next question was, where to go? Rents are ridiculously high everywhere.
With our kids grown, Sharon retired, and me working remotely, we can live anywhere there is Internet. How does one decide when one has infinite options? We chose not to decide yet.
Instead, we decided to travel North America by car, staying in hotels, for at least a year. We figured out our rent plus water, electricity, Internet, trash, sewage, etc., was close to hotel costs. Hotels include all of that, plus maid service, front desk help, pools and exercise rooms, and the freedom to live anywhere.
With creative searching for discounts and the lowest rates, we can take the road trip of our dreams for as long as we’d like.
We’re both in our 60s and have been married for over 40 years. We’ve lived in Indiana, Texas, and Hawaii. It’s in our nature to take chances for experience sake. This trip is a risk, and we’re excited.
