Almost Time

We’re a couple of weeks out from putting all our belongings into storage and heading out on the open road. It’s scary and exciting. We aren’t rich, we aren’t in super shape, we only have a small SUV, and we have a service dog, so it’ll be an adventure.

For the last couple of months we have been planning. Not our travel routes, just preparation for traveling and living in hotels. We decided not to make a massive detailed plan and follow it. Instead, we’ve chosen some destinations we’d like to visit, and we’ll play it by ear how and when we get to them.

We’ve been buying so much travel stuff. Knowing it’s not a vacation, we have to live for a year with what fits in our car. Well, in 6 months we will have a box of winter clothes shipped to us, and there are always stores, so it’s not quite a post-apocalyptic survival trip.

Packing everything we own in a way we can store it for a year is more difficult than we expected. No open-top boxes of dishes. Everything must be in a sealed container. Hoping to fit it all in our 10×15′ storage unit! Fortunately, we don’t have much furniture. 

That’s the update for today. Updates will be much more entertaining when we’re actually traveling.
